Japan's Energy Demand Is at an Inflection Point

After 15 years of continuous decline, Japan's electricity demand is reversing. The catalysts are broad-based: AI data centers are projected to roughly triple their power consumption over the next decade, while RE100 corporate offtakers and Japan's national energy-security agenda add further structural demand — together the country's sharpest demand reversal in decades.

To meet this need, solar must scale from 79 GW to 200–300 GW by 2040 under Japan's 7th Strategic Energy Plan. The grid requires ¥6–8 trillion in new infrastructure investment. Yet only around 3 GW of solar in both 2024 and 2025 was installed. The development gap is enormous — and Fresno is positioned to fill it.

The Missing Link in Japan's Renewable Supply Chain

Fresno Holdings is a Singapore-based renewable energy developer and independent power producer (IPP). Our Japan platform, Fresno Japan, develops, builds, owns and operates Small Utility Scale solar (SUS) projects and battery storage, covering the full lifecycle — from land acquisition through permitting, grid connection and cPPA into long-term operation — and we also co-invest alongside institutional partners as long-term owners of the assets we build.

We manage the full project lifecycle — from greenfield origination through construction financing and into long-term operation — with a singular focus on quality. Our greenfield-first approach lets us control cost, design and schedule from day one, ensuring strict compliance with regulation and the expectations of local communities, landowners and government.

Integrated Solar Development Platform

Solar Development

Solar Development

Fresno develops High Voltage solar projects (less than 2 MW AC, with 6.6 kV connection, ground-mounted with corporate PPA) at the "SUS" scale — too large for rooftop installers, too small for the largest international developers. This segment benefits from a shorter and reliable permitting timeline and less crowded competitive landscape.

Battery Storage

Battery Storage (BESS)

Co-located and standalone battery energy storage systems alongside our solar pipeline, addressing Japan's grid flexibility needs as intermittent solar scales toward Japan's 2030 grid-flexibility targets.

Long-Term Ownership & Co-Investment

Fresno carries projects through construction and into long-term operation, co-investing its own capital alongside institutional partners. We remain owners and operators of the assets we develop — in which we provide high-quality management services — aligned with our partners from origination through to operation.
